A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself

Josh Billings

A holiday for your dog too

The Llyn Peninsula is the ideal holiday for your hound!

Endless beaches, fresh air, long coastal paths and a log fire to lie in front of afterwards!?  We hope your dogs will have the time of their lives at Ynata.

We've tried to make the cottage as dog friendly as possible.  All of the floors downstairs are tiled to make for easy cleaning and less stress.  Wherever possible we've made the surfaces hard wearing or easily washable.  There are dog bowls in the cottage ready for your furry friends.

The front garden has a secure gate, although a determined dog could get over the wall at the end of the garden.  Ynata is in a protected area, so unfortunately its not possible for us to change this.  With supervision the garden has been fine for our dogs.

Great Local Walks

Step outside the door at Ynata and there are superb walks all around for your dog to explore.  Whether you head to the beach, up the incline plane towards the quarry or along the coastal path your dog is going to have plenty of new places and smells to explore!

Dog Friendly Beaches

The Llyn peninsula has an awful lot of dog friendly beaches.  Some have no restrictions at all, others may require you to stay to a certain section of the beach or keep your dog on a lead.    As of the time of writing this is the situation on beaches but it can change so its probably a good idea to check the latest here

Beaches with no restrictions

  • Trefor Beaches (inc West End)
  • Afon Wen Beach,
  • Carreg Wen Beach, Porthmadog.
  • Llanbedrog Beach
  • Warren Beach, Abersoch
  • Penllech Beach, northern coast near Porth Colmon
  • Pontllyfni Beach, just north up the coast from Trefor
  • Porth Neigwl (Hells Mouth) Beach, at the south west end of the Llyn Peninsula.

Beaches with some restriction

  • Black rock Sands - Dogs are allowed on the eastern and western sections but not the central section
  • Whistling Sands/Porthor Beach -  Dogs allowed from 1st October to March 31st
  • Pwlheli Main Beach -  Dogs are not allowed on a small section of the beach in front of the promenade from 1st April to 30th September. The rest of the beach is dog-friendly all year
  • Pwlheli Plas Heli - great crescent shaped beach mostly visited by locals.  (head for the large carpark by the Plas Heli sailing club/lifeboat station.  Dogs are restricted to turning right as you walk onto the beach

Dog Friendly Pubs and Cafes

These are all the places we've tried with our dog where we've been able to take him inside.

Pubs

  • The Goat Inn - dog friendly but book and let them know you are bringing your pup. https://www.thegoatinn.org/
  • Y Bryn Cynan Pub - Robinsons pub who accept dogs although on a 1 dog per table policy (?!) https://ybryncynan.pub/
  • The Vaynol Abersoch - Pub with good reviews on the main street in the heart of Abersoch.  Outside and inside seating with no dog restrictions last time we were there.  https://thevaynol-abersoch.co.uk/

Cafes

  • Cadwaladers Cafe - Criccieth famous for their ice creams but do food as well.  You can take your dog inside.  Great views over the bay
  • The Tea Room - Criccieth
  • Aqua Beach Bar - Llanbedrog Beach (our dogs fave for breakfast and a run on the beach when the weather is good, but get there early to avoid a queue!
  • Mickeys Boat Yard/Little Teashop - great little cafe south end of Abersoch/Machroes Beach, walk down the beach or drive to it along some narrow lanes.  Beautifully situated overlooking the bay
  • Caffi Porthdinllaen Nefyn - A nice, dog-friendly cafe with outdoor seating and a menu serving excellent coffee and light snacks. The cafe is located right by the path that leads down to Porthdinllaen beach. We recommend the white chocolate and raspberry slices – they will not disappoint!
