The Llyn Peninsula has some absolutely wonderful places to eat and drink. Seafood abounds as you would expect, and there are plenty of cosy pub with log fires. Below is a small selection of recommendations for perhaps some lesser known venues that we would say are worth a visit.
The Potted Lobster in Abersoch offers a unique and relaxed dining experience with a menu packed with fresh, locally sourced seafood. The seafood linguine comes highly recommended.
Situated on the main street, Stryd Fawr, in Abersoch there is inside dining as well as a street level terrace. Booking is recommended. The link below will take you to their website where you can book and check out their sample menus.
If you take a trip to Aberdaron and its lovely beach then a great place to eat on a sunny day is the terrace at this hotel. Aberdaron beach is great for a long walk, with views out towards Bardsey Island on a fine day.
Very reasonably priced pub style food but its the setting that really makes this one. The terrace is elevated and literally sits out over the beach. Dogs are welcome and the bay itself is a picture on a nice day.
Borth-Y-Gest is a delightful hidden gem of a bay near to Porthmadog. As well as the harbour itself you can walk around headland to some wonderful beaches.
A great place to have lunch is at one of the bistro style restaurants, set right on the bay. Most serve locally sourced seafood and meats and you can often get seating with fabulous views across the bay. In our opinion, the harbour really looks at its best at high tides so perhaps plan your trip around those. You can get the latest tide times here
If you like ice cream, you have to try this place! Two Islands Ice Cream opened in Spring 2018 with the aim of making the best ice cream possible.
Everything is made in house, from the base ice cream itself to all of the flavourings using welsh dairy and egg yolks. In the shop you can see through to the open kitchen and watch ice cream being made in small batches. Don't miss out on the coffee, cakes and the very special cookies either!
Situated in the heart of Abersoch right by the main crossroads on the way in.
Another hidden gem. Tucked away on the hill overlooking Llanbedrog beach you can choose between fine dining in the restaurant, or lunch on the wonderful terrace overlooking the bay.
Book via their website, where they recommend you do not book a taxi home until at least 10.30!
Another great option is their Bistro to Go service. Call up and order from their takeaway menu, then pop by and collect. A great selection at very reasonable prices. The most indulgent picnic ever or head home with your dinner safely organised.
How about combining some art with a light lunch or morning coffee? Plas Glyn-y-Weddw is owned by a charitable trust and has a nice little cafe in an orangery alongside the main house. Entrance is free although the car parking is chargeable.
The house is situated in 12 acres of woodland with some pleasant paths you are welcome to use. The house itself has changing art collections and is a great option for when the weather isnt as kind. Not the best signposted, follow signs to beach, then Oriel Gallery
Voted in the top 20 best beachside bars Aqua Bar & Restaurant is located right at the entrance to Llanbedrog beach. Open from 9am through to 6pm this one is another must visit if the weather is good.
Superb for breakfast or afternoon cocktails. Parking nearby is at the National Trust pay & display carpark.
Fish and chips by the sea is a great tradition. The Creel is a traditional, family run Fish and Chip shop situated in the heart of Porthmadog High Street and in our opinion is the best on the peninsula. (Closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays).
The Goat is a charming old pub that serves great quality home cooked food. Portion sizes are large but without sacrificing quality. The gammon is particularly recommended! Dog friendly but do book ahead as it gets very busy particularly at the weekends.
A lively, delightful and very welcoming restaurant that we can highly recommend. Y Sgwar serves beautifully prepared locally sourced foods. Particular favourites are the scallop starter and the heavenly crusted lamb main course. Another one to book ahead for to be sure of a table.
Known locally as the "Nant", Nant Gwrtheyrn has a cafe that is worth visiting for the views alone. Reached by a spectacular switchback mountain road, the Nant is a heritage centre in a valley that featured a fascinating village serving the local quarry.
The cafe serves locally produced good quality food. Check for opening times as they do vary by season

A little gem that is a favourite of ours.
The Idris Cafe on the high street in Criccieth is an unpretentious old fashioned bakery. Freshly made sandwiches, cakes and hot food, (do try their Ancient Grain bread if they have made some!)
Take out to the beach or eat in? Don't miss this one
