Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways

Two heritage lines in one place.  The Ffestiniog Railway is the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway with almost 200 years of history, taking you on a 13½-mile journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog

The Welsh Highland Railway is the UK’s longest heritage railway and runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foot of Snowdon and the picture postcard village of Beddgelert, then through the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog

Llanberis Lake Railway

Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways

Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways

Vintage steam engines rescued from the nearby Dinorwic slate quarries and lovingly restored take you on a journey past the 13th century Dolbadarn Castle, across possibly Britain's shortest river and past Llanberis' twin lakes.

From Llanberis the train runs non-stop through the Padarn Country Park, joining the 1845 slate railway route to run along the shores of Lake Padarn to Penllyn, and giving stunning views of Snowdon, the highest peak in England and Wales.
